- Sustainable financing for forest and landscape restoration
- IDH initiative for sustainable landscapes
Integrated landscape management is an approach in which a group of stakeholders in a given landscape collaborates to achieve outcomes for landscapes that are critical for each of the individual stakeholders. It therefore offers a promising means for realizing SDGs. The tools and strategies explicitly focus on synergies among different landscape objectives, and on identifying and managing trade-offs in the context of democratic and inclusive governance.
Integrated landscape management requires new types of investment and financing arrangements. Singular actors – including businesses, investors, NGOs, and public agencies – cannot achieve outcomes for whole landscapes and across sectors without collaboration and cost sharing.
New landscape-scale investment partnerships that bring together private and public investors to engage with local, national, and international stakeholders, are required. Such landscape partnerships are on the rise and a growing number of public and private investors – including development financing institutions, private investment funds and banks, as well as governments and donors – are now seeking to invest in integrated landscapes.
This Discussion Forum will focus on how investments are coordinated within integrated landscape initiatives and how investors can better engage with those who have a stake in the landscape. It will highlight some of the most innovative funds and partnerships in this space, describe how they function, discuss how these efforts can be improved and up-scaled, and how such models for investment can be applied in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Two new papers developed by the Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative (LPFN) will be presented and discussed, one on integrated landscape management as a means of implementation for the SDGs, and the other on models for investment in integrated landscapes.
Key questions addressed
- How are investments coordinated within integrated landscape initiatives?
- How can investors better engage with landscape stakeholders?
- How can these models be scaled-up and applied in the implementation of the SDGs?
