As climate change impacts continue to reverberate around the world, the need for action has never been clearer.
Countries around the world have to take action, and more and more countries have reported their Intended National Determined Contributions (INDCs) to the UNFCCC. With agriculture playing a major role in many countries’ economies, this is an important opportunity to bring agriculture into climate change commitments and actions and tackle issues related to agriculture and food security.
The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) will host a side event at the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), which will consist of three interrelated sessions on ensuring food security under climate change through policies, integrated land use, new technologies and practices, and empowering women and youth.

09:10 – 09:30 | Opening presentation: Transformational change towards Climate Compatible Agriculture: Can INDCs lead the way?
The opening presentation will discuss the INDCs and how they include agriculture, food security and land use, and if there is a link to the SDG agenda. It will ask the question of whether we need provision for food security under a new climate regime, or If that is a gap in the INDCs. Sam Bickersteth, CEO, Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) |
09:30 – 10:30 | Panel discussion: The INDCs and how they address food security, agriculture and land use?
Panelists will discuss the INDCs and what action is needed to sufficiently address food security challenges through agriculture, food systems and land use under a new global climate agreement. What will it take to achieve climate adaptation and mitigation, while building food security? The panelists will showcase and discuss different examples of concrete action, including actions they would themselves be able to take. They will be asked to address the implications for gender and social inclusion from their perspective. The examples are meant to show what can be achieved when individuals and organisations tackle food security through a climate lens. Speakers:
