José Joaquín Campos Arce is the Director General of the Costa Rica-based Center for Tropical Agricultural Research and Education (CATIE), an international organization for research, graduate education and outreach. Previously, he served as Deputy Director General, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Director of the Latin American Chair of Forest Landscape Management at CATIE. He also held positions as Director of the Environment and Rural Development Department, Director of the Forest Department and Head of the Natural Forest Management Unit. He is a member of the Independent Advisory Group of the Inter American Development Bank, CIFOR Board of Trustees and Editorial Board of the International Forestry Review. He was a member of the Board of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), Scientific Advisory Committee of the Korea Forest Research Institute, External Advisory Group (forestry) of the World Bank, the International and the Ibero American Network of Model Forests, and the Committee on Ecosystem Management of IUCN. He has over 30 years of professional experience and has published more than 100 publications. Mr. Campos holds a PhD in Forestry from the University of Oxford, UK, a M.Sc. in Natural Resources Management from CATIE, and a B.Sc. in Forest Engineering from ESALQ, University of São Paulo, Brazil.
