Andrew Wardell is Senior Manager, Research Capacity and Partnership Development for the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), based at CIRAD in Montpellier, France. He has over 30 years experience working on natural resource management and capacity development issues in South-East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, he manages two large capacity-building projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, supports the sustainable management of the Virunga National Park landscape in eastern DRC and coordinates CIFOR’s The Landscape Fund initiative. He previously served as Research Director of CIFOR Forests and Governance Portfolio. Prior to joining CIFOR, he was Regional Director for the Clinton Climate Initiative-Forestry in the Asia-Pacific region supporting the development of seven REDD+ projects in Indonesia and Cambodia, and Counsellor-Development with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh where he launched a multi-donor Natural Resource Management and Livelihoods facility.
