Anders Malmer is the Director of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) program SLU Global. In this position he coordinates the university-wide work with low-income countries and in global development. He also works as Professor at the SLU Department of Forest Ecology and Management in Umeå. His research concerns tropical forests and landscapes, especially questions related to the role of trees in improving and restoring land productivity, livelihoods, ecosystem services and climate adaptation. Since 2014, he is a member of the Swedish FAO committee that assists the government to promote FAO´s activity. Anders Malmer graduated BSc in Physical Geography from Umeå University in 1986. He graduated in 1993 on a thesis on effects of clearing of rainforest and establishment of forest plantation in Malaysian Borneo (Sabah).
