Alex Noerdin

Governor of South Sumatra, Indonesia

Alex Noerdin is Governor of the Province of South Sumatra, Indonesia. He began his political career as a campaigner and teacher, with the Golkar Party. He was nominated as the Deputy secretary of DPD Golkar Municipality of Palembang in 1988 and was appointed Chairman of DPD Golkar South Sumatra Province from 2004 until 2013. He was elected as Regent of the Musi Banyuasin District for two consecutive periods (2001-2006 and 2007 – 2012). In the middle of his second term in June 2008, he was nominated to run for office as the Governor of South Sumatra. He was elected Governor of South Sumatra in and ran a second term starting in 2013. Mr. Noerdin has collected dozens of awards as an appreciation of his achievements both in the areas of governance, social, sports, and youth and community.
