William Sunderlin is Principal Scientist with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Bogor, Indonesia. As such, he is the leader of research on REDD+ project sites in CIFOR’s Global Comparative Study on REDD. His areas of expertise are tenure and rights, poverty and livelihoods, and the underlying causes of deforestation and degradation. He has got a BA degree in American Civilization from Williams College (USA) and MSc and PhD degrees in Rural Sociology from Cornell University (USA).
