Virgilio Viana is the Director General at Fundação Amazonas Sustentável which aims at conserving forest conservation and improving the welfare of 576 communities. He is a member of the World Economic Forum, of the Global Agenda Council on Poverty and Sustainable Development; of the Consultative Board of Royal Society’s Human Resilience Project; of the Leadership Council of the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), and co-chair of Amazon SDSN. In 1993 he participated in the creation of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and was founder and president at IMAFLORA. In 2003, he was the first State Secretary for Environment and Sustainable Development in Amazonas. Mr. Viana has a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from Harvard University.
