Thelma Krug is considered one of the foremost scholars in the field of climate change and forests. In October 2015, she was elected to the position of Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), during its 42nd plenary session in Dubrovnik (Croatia). She will therefore play a crucial role in preparing the next IPCC Assessment Report. Ms. Krug has received a number of awards, including the Title of Knight – granted by the Ordem do Mérito Cartográfico by the Brazilian Society of Cartography. She holds a PhD in spatial statistics and is a senior researcher at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (National Institute for Space Research) in Brazil. S
