Osvaldo Stella Martins is the Director of the Amazon Environmental Research Institute. At IPAM, he leads the Sustainable Settlements in the Amazon project supported by the Amazon Fund. He founded the NGO The Green Initiative that created the first Brazilian offset seal, restoring riparian areas in the Atlantic forest. TGI has since planted more than 1 million trees. In the past 20 years, Osvaldo has worked in the Amazon with electric power generation and economic empowerment. In 1992, Mr. Stella crossed 2.500km across the Trans Amazon highway by bike, the first of many cycling adventures and a trip that defined his life. He is a Mechanical Engineer with a Master’s degree in Energy Management and doctorate in Ecology and Natural Resources.
