Abdul is the head of a village-level natural resource management board in Muara Siran, a well-known village in East Kalimantan for the conservation of peatlands. Muara Siran is located in the district Kutai Kartanegara, the district with the largest peatlands in East Kalimantan (approximately 230,000ha). Abdul Agus chairs the board and facilitates his fellow community members to develop plans for peatland conservation and sustainable land use in Muara Siran, where almost 80% of the area is wet and peatlands.
