Yuki Sakamoto leads a project to develop, test, and promote social safeguard guidelines, which contribute to forest conservation in developing countries for the Global Environmental Forum (GEF). The main purpose of the project is to provide guidelines for seeking Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) from indigenous peoples and/or local communities, primarily targeting Japanese aid organizations and private businesses that are interested in REDD+ projects. She has long-standing experience in educational and consultancy activities for Japanese companies on their sustainable timber sourcing, with broad knowledge on demand-side measures in the EU and the US to tackle illegal logging.
