Indonesian and global leaders at Global Landscapes Forum in Marrakesh to discuss Indonesia’s climate action role

MEDIA ADVISORY

The Global Landscapes Forum: Climate Action for Sustainable Development will take place on 16 November in Marrakesh. The leading side event at COP22 is hosting 500 experts and leaders who will discuss practical and thought-provoking solutions and initiatives to climate change.

With Indonesia ratifying the Paris Agreement on 19 October, the country continues to play a key role in climate and development policy.

The Global Landscapes Forum will host numerous decision-makers and innovators from Indonesia, including Minister for National Development Planning Bambang Brodjonegoro, Peatland Restoration Agency Head Nazir Foead and Tropical Landscapes Finance Facility Steering Committee Chair Kuntoro Mangkusubroto.

Discussions and exclusive launches will put a spotlight on both progress that has been made and the issues that Indonesia is facing, including an online mapping tool that helps track deforestation in Borneo, an initiative to save the world’s peatlands and national REDD+ strategies and policy.

Other expert speakers at the Forum include:

  • Barbara Hendricks, Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Germany
  • Khaled Fahmy, Minister of Environment, Egypt
  • Edgar Gutierrez, Minister of Environment and Energy, Costa Rica
  • Erik Solheim, Executive Director, UNEP
