The European Tropical Forest Research Network is interested in your work on zero deforestation commitments.
Hundreds of companies have committed to reducing deforestation in their value chains, especially those supplying oil palm, soy, beef, paper and timber, supported by international declarations and national and regional governments who have pledged their support. But what have been the impacts? What has worked, and what hasn’t?
The 25-30 papers in this ETFRN News will look at how ‘on paper’ commitments to zero deforestation are being turned into ‘on the ground’ impacts, through a range of commodities and companies. It will share experiences and increase our understanding of zero deforestation commitments; their relevance (scope and limitations), impacts (current and potential), and how best practices can be scaled up and out.

If you are interested in contributing, send a short outline (half page to a page) to the editors Nick Pasiecznik (npasiecznik@wanadoo.fr) and Herman Savenije (herman.savenije@tropenbos.org) by 15 October 2016, with the most relevant to be selected by 1 November. International corporations and civil society organizations are strongly encouraged to contribute. Selected authors will be offered a framework and a dedicated editor will be at hand throughout to assist the transformation from abstract idea to illustrated reality. Full papers (2500-3000 words) are to be finalized by 20 December 2016.
ETFRN News 58 is being produced in partnership with European Forest Institute’s EU FLEGT and REDD facilities, GIZ – Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeitung GmbH, Tropical Forest Alliance 2020, CIFOR and the Government of the Netherlands, and will be published in June 2017.
