A landscapes approach is ideal when it comes to integrating measures of both climate change adaptation and mitigation. This is one of the key take-aways from a video discussion between two Scientists at the Center for International Forestry Research:
- Terry Sunderland, Principal Scientist with CIFOR’s Forests and Livelihoods program, and
- Giacomo Fedele, one of CIFOR’s Research Fellows specialized in integrated approaches to climate change,
In the ,, minute conversation they talk about the opportunities of integrating landscape approaches into climate change mitigation and adaptation programs. They also take a look at climate smart agriculture in relation to REDD+.
Sunderland and Fedele also discuss the interaction between forests and sustainable agriculture, as forests do not only play an important role as an ecosystem service provider but also as a provider of non-timber products.
Landscape approaches and climate change will also play an important role at the 2014 Global Landscapes Forum for example at the sessions:
Minding the research-practitioner gap: The implementation of integrated landscape approaches
New findings on the dynamics between forests, land use and food security
Will climate-smart agriculture help realize REDD+?
