Juan Carlos Castilla-Rubio is the Chairman of the Planetary Skin Institute (PSI), a non-profit research and development corporation, co-founded with NASA. It aims to incubate advanced risk management decision-support platforms that will enable vulnerable communities to proactively manage the increasing exposures and vulnerabilities to accelerating climate change. PSI was awarded one of TIME Magazine’s Top Innovation Awards for 2009. Mr. Castilla-Rubio is also chairman of Space Time Ventures, a holding company that invests in disruptive Artificial Intelligence start-ups to enable risk management and resource productivity revolutions in the energy, water and agriculture sectors. He led the Sustainability Digital Innovations Group for Cisco Inc. with global responsibility for programs incubating Big Data & Analytics, Internet of Things and Cloud-based risk management / resource productivity platforms across multiple industries and sectors. Prior to that, he led Cisco’s Emerging Markets Innovation Group focused on designing and operationalizing large scale/ complex digital innovation programs for governments and corporations, with a focus on Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Mexico, South Africa, Gulf States, Turkey and India.
