Gabriel Labbate holds a Biology degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, a Master Degree in Economics from New York University and a Ph. D in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Gabriel has worked on the interphase of environmental conservation, poverty and human development since 1988. His field experience includes Latin America, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, China and the Pacific. Some of the places Gabriel has worked for, include the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Labor Organization (ILO), Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), academia and the private sector. He has several publications in natural resource valuation, sustainability indicators, human development, conservation of biological diversity and poverty. At present, he is the Regional Coordinator for the Latin American and the Caribbean region for the Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI) and the UN REDD program.
