Andrea Ledward is the Head of the Climate and Environment Department in DFID. She manages the UK Government’s £3.87bn International Climate Fund and is the UK Board member on the Green Climate Fund. She previously led DFID’s largest bilateral programme in Ethiopia and the 2010 Bilateral Aid Review. Prior to DFID she spent 8 years in the Cabinet Office, Social Exclusion Unit and the Department for Communities and Local Government leading strategy on social exclusion and community empowerment and South Asia. She is a psychologist and medical anthropologist with specialist expertise in working with children and young people. She has led large scale research programs in Tanzania, Vietnam and Ghana. She managed HIV/AIDS programs in Malawi and Zimbabwe and led Save the Children UK’s advocacy work on Iraq. She was educated at Oxford University and University College London and was a Fulbright scholar at Harvard University.
