He is Agronomist by the University of the Republic (Uruguay) and his first professional activity was to lead the technical team of a sugar mill at cooperative CALNU in Bella Union, Uruguay. He also\u00a0is a rice cultivator and cattle breeder in North Uruguay. He was elected Member of the Executive Board and Vice-President of the Rice Farmers Association ACA (1988 \u2013 2006) and President of that organization (2006 \u2013 2009).
