Carlos A. Klink

Secretary for Climate Change, Ministry of Environment, Brazil

Carlos A. Klink is Brazil´s Secretary for Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment. He also is a Senior Program Officer of the Sustainable Business advisory at IFC (on leave) and a Professor of Ecology at University of Brasilia (on leave). He has 18 years of experience working with land-use and climate change issues in the Amazon and Cerrado ecosystems of Brazil. Before joining IFC, he was the Agriculture Team Leader for the Nature Conservancy in Brazil, where he coordinated Conservancy’s strategies on agribusiness and conservation across ecosystems, working with corporations, financial institutions, trade forums, academia and NGOs. He also was a consultant with the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility and served on the boards of Brazilian NGOs, governmental institutions and international scientific committees. Mr. Klink published 2 books, 45 scientific articles, and 100+ paper presentations. He has a B.Sc. in Biology and M.Sc. in Ecology from University of Campinas, Brazil and his Master’s degree and PhD in Ecology from Harvard University. He was a visiting scholar at University of Maryland, College Park.
