The competition encourages research institutions, think tanks, design professionals, students and other interested individuals to use their creativity to enhance understanding of the holistic \u2018landscape approach\u2019 to development conservation and research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\"><a style=\"font-weight: inherit;font-style: inherit;color: #2c8ed3\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.cifor.org\/19628\/qa-scientist-terry-sunderland-describes-the-landscapes-approach\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cWhat is a landscape approach\u201d?<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\">Participants are free to focus on one or several of these questions:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #727372\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit;font-style: inherit\">Why do we need landscape approaches to land management?<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit;font-style: inherit\">Why are landscapes important for both adaptation to- and mitigation of climate change?<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit;font-style: inherit\">Why should landscape approaches have a place in the broader development agenda?<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit;font-style: inherit\">How can the complex relationships between humans and the environment be effectively communicated to specialists and the general public alike?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\">Too often, facts about development, land use and the environment are presented in a simplistic manner, overlooking key interactions that take place in landscapes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\">The competition challenges participants to represent the real complexity of a landscape in a way that allows for simple understanding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\">We are happy about entries from data visualization and graphic design professionals \u2013 but also encourage amateurs to try out their design skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\"><strong style=\"font-style: inherit\">Deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #727372\">Submissions will be received from 23 September 2014 to 20\u00a0November 2014 at midnight UTC.
