Sergio Zelaya-Bonilla is Special Advisor on Global Issues at the Office of the Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat. He is an economist who has been concerned with environmental issues for decades, gaining vast experience in environmental policy and advocacy. He has served as Vice Minister of Environment in Honduras, and as a negotiator of several UN conventions. He is focusing on the economic and technical aspects of land degradation, desertification and drought mainly in dry, semi-arid and sub-humid regions of the world, but also on the overall impact of land degradation in other regions of the world.
