Regional Director for the Americas, Bioversity International
Marleni Ramirez is Regional Director for the Americas of Bioversity International. She has developed, administered and implemented research on conservation of agricultural biological diversity. Her research includes peasant management of native varieties of minor tubers in the Peruvian Andes, agro tourism in support of the conservation and use of native crops in Ecuador and the use of genetic diversity of Capsicum for product differentiation and income generation in Peru and Bolivia. Ms. Ramirez also led the development of the Strategic Action Plan for Plant Genetic Resources Conservation and Use for Mesoamerica: a science-based and participatory project supported by the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources (PGR).
