Climate Change Coordinator for Africa, CARE International
Karl Deering is CARE International’s Climate Change Coordinator for Africa and leads its work on integrating climate change into food and nutrition security programming. Prior to this, he led CARE UK’s Climate Change and Food Security Team. Previously, he was Head of advocacy at Malaria Consortium and also spent seven years at Concern Worldwide working on public health and food security in complex humanitarian crises in Pakistan, Liberia, Eritrea and South Sudan. His policy focus has included agriculture and social protection. Mr. Deering began his career in the field of conflict transformation and civilian diplomacy. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s degrees in both Peace and Conflict Studies from Trinity College Dublin and International Humanitarian Assistance from the Universidade de Deusto, Bilbao.
