Arild Angelsen is a Professor of economics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and a Visiting Professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He is also a Senior Associate of the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). His research focuses on causes of tropical deforestation, poverty and environmental income, and various aspects of REDD+, including national policies and institutions, carbon markets and reference levels. Mr. Angelsen is global coordinator of the Poverty Environment Network (PEN), a CIFOR-led research programme collecting detailed information from about 9,000 households in 26 developing countries on forest uses and management. He has broad field experience from Southeast Asia and Eastern Africa, and has lived in Uganda, Indonesia, Australia and the USA.
