Umayo ― La Laguna Escondida
Photographer’s comment: “Umayo Lagoon is a singular lake, deeply sunk in the rocky plateau in the Puno Region of Peru. It loses most of its water through evaporation under the fierce sun and strong winds of the dry Altiplano. The area offers spectacular views of the Andean highlands and possess great biodiversity of flora and fauna. However, mining activities in neighboring locations could lead to changes in the landscape and deterioration of ecosystems.”
