Sumatran lowland forest–Indonesia
Photographer’s comment: “The lowland forests of Sumatra, Indonesia, include some of the most biologically diverse tropical forests in the world, yet they have been reduced to a small remnant of their former extent. Lowland forest areas have disappeared particularly fast because they are most accessible. Sumatran lowland forests are now regarded as among the most threatened forests in the world; 70% of Indonesia’s oil palm plantations are located in Sumatra.”
