Photographer’s comment: “The area comprises a critical land of more than 30,000 ha covered by different types of forests with the goal of supplying clean drinking water to 1.4 million people in the greater Seattle area. Managing these forests to support biodiversity and water provision requires an active approach to help building resilient ecosystems capable of coping with climate change. Therefore, active management is used here to promote structural diversification and increase species diversity for many of these stands.“
