Photographer’s comment: “Overlooking a valley in the French Alps as night sets. Being able to live in such inhospitable conditions in relative comfort is one of man’s greatest advantages. The alps are known for their skiing industry which changes landscapes to suit the activity and causes shifts in species distribution which is especially apparent in summer when the snow melts and the plants regrow. Altering ski piste making to more sustainable methods should be a task for the industry.“
