Certifications have become common in certain globally-trading agricultural sectors, such as the coffee industry. But scaling up certification to encompass the whole landscape – including ecosystem services – is much trickier. At the same time, researchers are experimenting with extending certification schemes to other sectors, for example livestock agriculture. Capturing the entire supply-chain can be difficult in this little explored territory – yet, several Brazilian success stories work as proof that the concept is on track.
